Utilities Maintenance Mechanic - Dallas

Position:       Utilities Maintenance Tech - (Ammonia/Refrigeration)                 

Location:      Dallas, TX

Report to:    Maintenance Manager

Position Summary:

Maintain mechanical equipment and facilities and to aid in the manufacturing of all company products in a safe and sanitary work environment.  Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned as production demands may require:

Role Responsibilities:

  • All matters listed herein are considered to be essential job functions. There may be other job functions which are essential, but are not listed below. Also, Borden Dairy may revise this description at any time deemed necessary.Must obey all safety, USDA, HACCP, and the Company rules and regulations.
  • Must obey all safety, USDA, HACCP, and the Company rules and regulations.
  • Must know shop mathematics, able to interpret drawings, and be able to use tools required.
  • Read all schematics.
  • Maintain entire ammonia system including valve gangs, evaporators, vessels, compressors, etc.
  • Observe and record temperatures and pressures as required
  • Observe and maintain air compressors and dryers.
  • Maintain water systems including pumps, softeners and auto-purgers
  • Maintain feed water tank and boiler chemicals
  • Maintain and Rebuild Boliers
  • Variety of pipefitting and plumbing, work with PVC, galvanized, black and stainless pipe up to 4Ē dia.
  • Perform HAZMAT duties as required.
  • Keep compressor rooms and related areas cleaned.
  • Must be proficient in the following areas including use of related tools and equipment:
  • AMMONIA SYSTEMS; IIAR or RETA Certifications is a requirement.
  • CIRO or CARO certified
  • Operator I and II certification
  • PLC Troubleshooting and/or programming
  • Electrical controls, wiring, instrumentation & Troubleshooting
  • Pipe Fitting/Plumbing
  • Automatic Equipment Operation
  • Candidate will be proficient in Ammonia Systems.
  • Must be able to explain SOPís to others.
  • Physical requirements must be able to lift 50-70 lbs. on a consistent basis.
  • Must have good communication skills (both written and oral).
  • Must be able to work weekends and overtime.
  • Communicating with management when there are concerns with the following: Production Safety and Employee Relations
  • Performs other related duties as assigned to support production demands as may be specified by customer or client. Also, perform other related duties as required by management.
  • Must have knowledge of PSM
Qualifications and Experience:
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.   • High School Diploma or GED required 
  • One-year certificate from college or technical school; or five (5) years related work experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. 
  • Must be able to posses and maintain a valid forklift license issued by the company.
  • Must pass pulmonary fitness test initially and every 2 years there after.
  • Experience within the food and beverage industry preferred.
  • Able to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
  • Must complete power jack/forklift training course, Lock Out/Tag Out and Hazard Communication training courses. 
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, use hands and stretch and reach with hands and arms. The employee frequently is required to walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear.
  • The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance and smell. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Must have full range of body motion.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and /or humid conditions and risk of electrical shock. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places, fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions, and extreme cold. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
  • The employee will be required to use all personal protective equipment provided by the company in compliance with OSHA regulations.
  • Overtime and working on holidays is often required.
  • Be able to effectively work in a team environment displaying a positive attitude.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment.
  • Must be detail oriented and able to multi-task effectively
  • Must be able to pass all medical exams, drug and background checks (including criminal).
