Sr. Accountant

Department: Accounting
Location: Dallas, TX

Position Summary:
The Senior Accountant is responsible for managing G/L accounts, preparing journal entries, monthly account analysis and reconciliation, in addition to supporting the business with reporting and analysis needs.  


Role Responsibilities:

  •  Responsible for the the full-cycle accounting efforts and period close for various of Borden’s Business Units
  •  Reconcile general ledger accounts and be able to communicate and “tell the story” of the balance on the account in a “non-accounting” manner.
  •  Prepare journal entries and analyze cost center line item details for accuracy and reasonableness. Understand what makes up the numbers, not only execute transactions.
  •  Communicate and document cost center variances (Actual v. Plan / Forecast) and work with Business Unit’s to assist them in understanding and resolving variances
  •  Partner with Senior Finance Managers to analyze BU monthly results and assist with forecast as needed
  •  Streamline and automate monthly close transactions as well as non-close activities
  •  Participate and provide ideas in team projects that focus on process improvement, eliminating non-value-added transactions, etc.
  •  Propose accounting policies and develop procedures that will provide structure and clear direction.
  •  Develop and prepare financial and managerial accounting information such as income statement trends, production reporting analysis, etc.
  •  Perform ad-hoc analysis and reporting requests.

  • Proficient with excel to be able to handle high volumes of data

  • Experience with process streamlining is highly preferred (especially any experience with automation using RPA)
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to multi-task, handle stressful situations, and meet tight deadlines

  • The ability to write, report and verbally communicate in a clear, respectful and concise manner that is understandable to a variety of audiences. Someone who is particularly able to understand technical accounting jargon and articulate those concepts to non-accounting business partners so they understand 
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision – but who is also a great Team Player


Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
  • 4+ years’ experience in similar role
  • CPA preferred, MBA is a plus
  • Cost accounting experience preferred
